It's pretty clear at this point that the Jazz are not interested in winning basketball games this season. The team is still actively looking to trade star player Donovan Mitchell, and rumors have also arisen regarding veteran contributors Bojan Bogdanovic and Mike Conley being traded in coming weeks. I for one have been begging the front office to thrust the team into a rebuild for over a year now after several mediocre seasons, and it looks like they are finally listening (clearly I believe I have a ton of influence on the front office of an NBA team in Salt Lake City, Utah). It just so happens to be that this is the best season for tanking the NBA has seen in decades. Why? Because there's a gigantic kid in France who may be the best draft prospect we have seen since LeBron.
In most cases I think total tank jobs are stupid. Teams are able to rebuild while still winning a few games and not totally losing their fanbase's interest. However, I want the Jazz to have the best possible odds to get the first overall pick more than I ever have before. Victor Wembanyama is a 7'2" (actually more like 7'5" based on pictures) 18 year old Frenchman who plays like Kevin Durant on offense and Rudy Gobert on defense. We have never seen a prospect as unique and transcendent as Wembanyama, and I want him in a Jazz jersey more than anything. I believe Wembanyama has legitimate GOAT potential. I know that's crazy to say when talking about a kid who's a year away from being drafted, but that's just how confident I am in his abilities. Watch some of his highlights and tell me he isn't the craziest prospect you've ever seen. p.s. If you say he isn't, you're a filthy liar.
Remember how good Kristaps Porzingis was when he was completely healthy on the Knicks? This kid is that but with a much higher ceiling. Imagine Rudy Gobert pulling up from three like he's Steph Curry. That's Victor Wembanyama. Unicorns call this guy a unicorn. He's better than any player you have ever created in 2K MyCareer. He is the clearest number one pick I have seen in my lifetime. On top of all of this, he is already playing in the second best basketball league in the world. I just don't see where you could go wrong with this guy.
So, the Jazz have to ensure that they are completely committing to a rebuild. In order to land this guy, they are going to have to lose a ton of games. I guarantee you there will be at least five other teams also vying for the number one pick. What I'm saying is that if guys like Mitchell, Bojan, and Conley aren't traded by the time the season starts, they are going to have to sit the bench. I want to see a starting lineup of G-League guys all year long. Some people may disagree with this, but I simply do not care. Wembanyama could be the savior of this franchise, a franchise that desperately needs a savior.
